Jesus is starting to recruit some followers: Telly Leung, Uzo Aduba, Nick Blaemire and Morgan James have signed on for the forthcoming Broadway revival of Godspell alongside previously announced star Hunter Parrish. Performances of the Stephen Schwartz musical begin October 13 with opening night set for November 7 at Circle in the Square Theatre, directed by Daniel Goldstein. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Leung has appeared on Broadway in Flower Drum Song, Rent and Pacific Overtures. He has also been featured as a Dalton Academy Warbler on TV's Glee. Aduba made her Broadway debut in Coram Boy and also appeared in The Seven at off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop. Blaemire appeared on Broadway in Cry Baby as well as the nation tour of Altar Boyz. James' Broadway credits include Wonderland and The Addams Family.
The revival marks the first Broadway production of Godspell since its original run transferred from off-Broadway to Broadway over 30 years ago, closing at the Ambassador Theatre on September 4, 1977 after 527 performances. A 1973 feature film version starred Victor Garber as Jesus. The show's signature song "Day By Day" reached #13 on the Billboard Top 100 list.
